Jim,

What an excellent way to start the year with your words of warning and wisdom. Great article!

I too have seen too many times L&D professionals focus on Level 1 and 2 and forget why their organizations have hired them in the firsat place - and that is to improve performance.

The key to me to get out of the L&D trap is to focus on developing relationships with those at all levels of management and then off course deliver - that is the only way to earn “a seat at the management/leadership table”.

And, when beginning to build these relationships - they take time and often are not easy. We L&D professionals or performance improvement consultants as I like to call us need to be patient.
